Solar panels and home batteries
Make your own electricity, store it for the evening and use less from the grid. Solar and battery installs are coming soon from CAB Electrical. In the meantime, design your roof and size a battery to see what you could save.
Design your roof
Tap the roof to add or remove panels, then tell us which way it faces. You'll see roughly what it could generate and save.
Which way does the roof face?
Any shade?
Add a battery?
A rough guide using typical North West figures (about 850 to 900 kWh per kWp a year facing south), 25p per kWh to buy and 15p to export. Your survey gives the real numbers.
A battery on its own still pays its way
No panels? A battery can charge on a cheap overnight tariff and run the house through the expensive evening. Already have panels? A battery keeps more of what you generate.
- Add a battery to existing solar, with a hybrid inverter or its own battery inverter
- Backup options that keep essentials running in a power cut
- Works with smart tariffs, EV chargers and heat pumps

Good to know
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not: most home roof panels count as permitted development. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flat roofs can be different, and the installer will check.
Can I get paid for what I export?
Yes. With an accredited installation you can sign up to a Smart Export Guarantee tariff with an energy supplier, who pays for each unit you send to the grid.
Does the grid need to know?
Yes. The network operator is notified about every system, and larger systems need approval before they connect. The installer handles the paperwork.
Will my fuse board cope?
The installer checks the board, main fuse and earthing. If your fuse board needs upgrading first, Carl can do that now.
