Power gone off? Let's find out why
Answer a few questions and we'll walk you through the checks that safely fix most trips in a couple of minutes. If it's something that needs an electrician, you'll know straight away.
Safety first. If you can smell burning, see smoke or sparks, or anything feels hot, don't touch it. If it's safe to reach, switch off at the main switch and call Carl on 07738 558186. If there's a fire, call 999.
Why things trip
A trip is your fuse board doing its job. Circuit breakers switch off when a circuit is overloaded or shorted, and RCDs switch off when electricity is leaking somewhere it shouldn't, often through a faulty appliance or water in an outside light.
If the same switch keeps tripping, don't keep pushing it back up. Something is telling you there's a fault.
When to call Carl
- A switch trips again straight away with everything unplugged
- A whole room is dead but nothing has tripped
- Old fuses that keep blowing
- Any burning smell, buzzing, heat or scorch marks
